Celebrate Graduation With Grad Nite At Disneyland

Magical Blogorail Red

Welcome to those of you joining me from The Disney Point and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

Celebrate Graduation With Grad Nite At Disneyland

In 1961, Disneyland held its very first Grad Nite. The event was designed to provide high school seniors with a fun and safe place to party after graduation. The recent graduates would come to Disneyland dressed in their best attire – coats and ties for the boys and dresses for the girls. Their night in the park would include dancing, live bands (some of them headliners), and all of the fun of Disneyland. The fun would continue until early morning with Disneyland closing at 6 a.m.

Over the years, the Grad Nite experience has been scaled back a bit. The bands which once featured headliners began to feature unkown artists. As of recently, the live music has been replaced by DJs. The dress code has also been scaled back. Currently graduates are no longer required to dress up for the party. The length of the Grad Nite party has also been shortened, with the party coming to a close at 2 a.m.

Despite the changes to Grad Nite, I think this still sounds like a spectacular way to celebrate high school graduation! Admission for Grad Nite 2015 includes an all day park hopper good for admission to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. At 10 p.m. California Adventure will be open exclusively to Grad Nite guests. The festivities will include Cars Land (which by the way looks amazing at night), a dance party, and an exclusive showing of World of Color called Grad Nite GOODNITE. The Grad Nite edition of World of Color features an additional segment with popular music from the past year.

If you’re interested in attending Grad Nite 2016, there are plenty of dates to choose from. In May 2016, Grad Nite celebrations will be held on the 13th, 14th, 18th, 20th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, and 31st. June 2016 Grad Nites will take place on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 15th, and 17th. Admission for Grad Nite 2016 will cost  $86 per graduate. For more information or to purchase your ticket for Grad Nite, visit the Disney Youth Programs website.

I was always disappointed my strict Catholic High School didn’t participate in Grad Nites! But my best friend and I came down post graduation, and as a type-a Disney planner, I was glad I got to plan out my whole vacation myself!

    • Even if you couldn’t go to Grad Nite, Disney sounds like a great place for a post graduation vacation!

I didn’t even know Grad Night existed when I was in High School…Of course it would be have been a pretty steep trip all the way from Central Minnesota to either coast! Do you know what the differences between the WDW and DL Grad Night programs are?

    • I don’t, but I think they were pretty similar with the exception of being at different parks. The WDW Grad Nites ended a few years ago.

  • Lisa Cameron

That sounds like such a fun night and a great way to celebrate Graduation. Makes me wish I went to high school closer to WDW or DL.

  • Julie Bigboy

I went to Grad Night at Disneyland in 1991 and at the time we were still required to dress up. It was fantastic being there all night long!!

    • I bet that was such a fun experience!

    • Ok – beyond jealous!!! Also that is the same year I graduated – so even more jealous. I think I went to dinner with may parents.
