One of my favorite Disney hidden treasures at Walt Disney World is the Electrical Water Pageant. I discovered this hidden gem on my second Disney vacation when my family stayed at Wilderness Lodge. The parade is similar in style to the Main Street Electrical Parade; In fact, the Electrical Water Pageant was the inspiration for the Main Street Electrical Parade.

The Electrical Water Pageant debuted in 1971 for Walt Disney World’s Dedication Day. This water parade features 14 spectacular floats and an energetic soundtrack. Though the pageant has undergone a few changes over the years, the current version of the Electrical Water Pageant is something you will not want to miss on your next Disney vacation.

The Electrical Water Pageant takes place on Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. It features sea creatures made from hundreds of sparkling lights. The music for the parade, much like the floats themselves, is also in a style similar to that of the Main Street Electrical Parade. The parade’s soundtrack features several Disney songs, in addition to some patriotic tunes which play as the American flag and some patriotic stars pass by.

This wonderful water parade can be seen from several different Disney resorts. Currently, the pageant can be seen from the Polynesian at 9pm, the Grand Floridian at 9:15pm, Wilderness Lodge at 9:30pm, Fort Wilderness at 9:45pm, and the Contemporary at 10:10pm. If Wishes begins at 10pm, the Electrical Water Pageant will be seen from the Contemporary at the conclusion of the fireworks show. During extended theme park hours, the Electrical Water Pageant can also be seen outside the entrance to Magic Kingdom at 10:35pm.

I loved viewing the Electrical Water Pageant from Wilderness Lodge! It is an experience I will never forget. Though I haven’t seen the pageant on every trip to Disney, it is one I highly recommend. For me, there is something extra magical about a beautiful light parade – and this one takes place on water! Have you experienced the Electrical Water Pageant at Walt Disney World?

Kimberly's love of Disney began at an early age and grew even more when her family won a Walt Disney World vacation from a local radio station. She grew up visiting the parks every one to two years and is fascinated by Disney history and trivia. Whether at the parks or at home, Kimberly is constantly looking for hidden Mickeys. She enjoys sharing tips and helping others plan their Disney vacations. In addition to Frontierland Station, she can also be found writing for Park World Travel and selecting music for Park World Radio.

  • Gotta be honest, this used to be one of my least favorite parts of Walt Disney World, but it has grown on me over time and now brings a smile to my face 🙂

    • Well I’m glad it’s grown on you. In all honesty, there are some thing at Disney I used to not like too…like Spaceship Earth. I’ve listened to the soundtrack a lot recently and I think I will love it next time I visit!

  • DisneyDonnaKay

Kimberly, we watched this every night from our room at The Wilderness Lodge on our first Walt Disney World trip. It’s very special to me. Great post!!

  • Maureen Litz- Diehl-Brown

MY FAVORITE! 😀 I have watched it from the Magic Kingdom docks, Fort Wilderness and the Polynesian Beach… it is one of those feel good Disney classics!

  • I enjoy this show because there’s so much nostalgia there! We first viewed it a few years ago from Fort Wilderness (while visiting friends). This past year, we were hanging out with friends at the Poly and got to see it from there as well. Fun show!

  • Mouse Ears Mom

Watching this parade at Fort Wilderness is one of my magical memories from my childhood and is now one of my son’s favorite things to experience at The Contemporary. It holds a very special place in my family’s hearts 🙂 Thanks for including the times! Great post!

  • AHHH!! I love this! I love it even more when I see it in the lagoon and I’m not expecting it. Which float is your favorite? i love the jumping fish!

    • I love seeing it when I’m not expecting it too! That actually happens a lot. I love the octopus and the whale. The stars are pretty cool too!

  • Great post, Kimberly! I’m sorry to say that I haven’t seen it all the way through, just bits and pieces, but it’s a lot of fun! Thanks for writing about it. Do you have a particular viewing location (I’m guessing you’ll say Wilderness Lodge) that you like better than others?

    • I think Wilderness Lodge is the only place I’ve actually stopped to watch the pageant, so I’d say it’s my favorite place to view it. I loved watching it near the geyser and beautiful pool at Wilderness Lodge. I also love seeing it when I don’t expect it. If I remember correctly, I think I’ve even seen it from the monorail a few times.

  • I have such great memories of this pageant when I was a kid. We always stayed at the Grand Floridian and would run out of Narcoosee’s to watch it! I love the music. Do you know where I could find it? YouTube maybe?

    • I don’t know of anywhere you can buy the music. I’ve heard it occasionally on Live365, but I can’t remember what station it was. Or it may have been on v24radio.com.

      • That’s a great idea! The Live365 stations have the best throwback music! Thanks Kimberly!

        • They do! I heard the song from Horizons a little while ago!

  • Lisa Cameron

Love the Electric Water Pageant! My favorite memory is from when we stayed at BLT with a park view. We were able to see it all over the lagoon, then went to the other side of the building to see it out the window. Do you have a favorite part?

    • How cool! I love the part with the Little Mermaid music!

  • JenniferLissak

I do love this! I saw it for the first time when I was staying at the Contemporary in 2009 – I had no idea about it before!

    • It’s such a neat experience! I don’t know why Disney doesn’t promote it more.

  • Thank you for pointing this out as I forgot all about it. What is your favorite place to watch the show from?

    • I love watching it from Wilderness Lodge. Although, seeing it from the monorail is pretty fun too!

  • DIStherapy

Longevity! This has been a family favorite since 1972, and it never gets old,(especially the patriotic ending). Our favorite spot to see it is from the railing outside Narcoossee’s, but I will admit that I’ve never seen it from Wilderness Lodge!

    • I bet Narcoossee’s would be a great spot to watch it! I’ve actually never been there.

  • I love that this is really still a hidden gem. When we are lucky enough to stay at Bay Lake we love to sit and watch this go by.

    • How fun! I bet the view is great from Bay Lake Tower!

  • ReturnToDisney

I didn’t realize they still did this parade – I’ll have to watch for it on our next trip!

    • They do! Almost 43 years and it’s still entertaining Disney guests!
