Fastpass To History: Beauty & The Beast – Live On Stage

Beauty & The Beast - Live On Stage

Beauty & The Beast – Live On Stage is my favorite show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It has been a must do for my family for as long as I can remember. The show features the classic tale as old as time, wonderful music, and gorgeous costumes. It’s combines classic Disney storytelling with a Broadway-style show – what’s not to love?!

The show premiered on November 22, 1991 – the same day as the film’s theatrical premiere. Guests who were lucky enough to see the Disney-MGM Studios (as it was called at the time) version of the story on opening day were actually experiencing Disney’s version of the story for the very first time!

Beauty & The Beast – Live On Stage was housed in the Theater Of The Stars until 1993 when it was moved to make way for the construction of Sunset Boulevard. The show was then temporarily housed in the Backlot Theater on New York Street. In July of 1994, the show moved in to the newly constructed Theater Of The Stars on Sunset Boulevard. Unlike the previous Theater Of The Stars, this new theater featured a covered roof.

In 2001, another change came to Beauty & The Beast – Live On Stage. The original order of the show didn’t quite follow the order of the film. In fact, the show opened with Be Our Guest. The 2001 changes added the Prologue and the reprise of Belle. The new changes also changed the order of the show to follow that of the popular Disney film.
