Fastpass To History: Walt Disney

Walt Disney

I love reading about Walt Disney. He seems like he must have been a very interesting person and quite the creative genius. This week, let’s take a look of some things you might not know about Walt:

  • Walt was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois.
  • In addition to his brother and business partner Roy, Walt also had two more brothers, Herbert and Raymond, and a sister, Ruth.
  • The name Disney originates from the French name d’Isigny. The name was anglicized to Disney.
  • When Walt was a child, a neighbor paid him to draw pictures of his horse.
  • Walt’s uncle, Michael Martin, was a train engineer. I’m sure this added to Walt’s love of trains.
  • Walt Disney was fascinated by miniatures. He wanted to build an attraction of miniature dioramas which would travel the country by train. The attraction would have been called Disneylandia.
