Favorite Food Friday: Disneyland Candy Canes

Disneyland Candy Canes

Each holiday season, the candy makers at Disneyland create hundreds of handmade candy canes. These Disneyland candy canes have become a tradition for many park guests. In fact, they are so popular a wristband is needed to obtain one of these holiday creations.

For the 2013 holiday season, candy canes are being made on Fridays and Tuesdays at Disneyland’s Candy Palace and on Mondays and Saturdays at Disney California Adventure’s Trolley Treats. If you are fortunate enough to get a wristband, you will be able to purchase one candy cane  for about $13. If you do not get a wristband, guests in the standby line will have a chance to purchase any unclaimed candy canes at 4 p.m.

Now that we know how to get one of these fabulous candy canes, let’s take a look at what goes in to making these classic holiday treats. Three candy makers are needed to make the Disneyland candy canes. One candy maker rolls out the batch of candy. A second candy maker pulls the 15 pound block of candy over a hook. The third candy maker shapes the candy into the candy cane shape. It takes about two hours to make each batch of these holiday treats. Each batch contains roughly 40 – 45 candy canes, and there are usually three batches made per day. Take a look at Disneyland’s candy makers in action in the video below.
