For guests staying on-property at Walt Disney World, free transportation is provided between the airport and resort, as well as, from the resort to practically anywhere on Disney property you would want to visit. But what about transportation from Disney to other Orlando attractions such as Universal or Sea World? It’s not practical to pay for a rental car for the entire length of your stay when it will only be used for a small portion of your vacation. Taxis are another option for your transportation; however their rates can still be a bit expensive.
There is now a new, less expensive, mode of transportation in Orlando. As of July 31, 2014, ride-sharing service Lyft is available in Orlando. The company uses a smartphone app to connect passengers with friendly and safe drivers. Each of the drivers must pass a background check, DMV record check, and a vehicle inspection before being approved to drive with Lyft. In addition to providing passengers with a safe and friendly mode of transportation, this ride-sharing service is on average 20-30% cheaper than taxi rates. You can even get your first ride FREE up to $20! Just enter code WDWLYFT prior to requesting your first ride. The fluffy pink mustaches worn by these cars definitely add to the fun and set them apart from the rest of the cars on the road.
I had the opportunity to try Lyft a few weeks ago. The app is very easy to use. Once you have downloaded the app and completed your profile information, just click the “Request Lyft” button. The app will let you know approximately how long it will be until your driver arrives. Usually it only takes a few minutes for them to arrive. As you can see in the screenshot below, the app will also show you a photo of your driver, as well as, the vehicle they will be arriving in. You will also get a text message to let you know when your friendly Lyft driver has arrived. Once you enter the pink mustache car, you will be greeted by the company’s signature fist bump.
Each time I have ridden with Lyft, the drivers were safe and knowledgeable of the area. They were also friendly and really make you feel like you are getting a ride from an old friend. This ride-sharing service is also available in many cities other than Orlando. You can check here to find out if they are available in your city. If you’re interested in driving with Lyft in Orlando or any other city, you can apply here. Enter referral code WDWLYFT to earn an extra bonus after completing 20 rides within your first 30 days.
Lyft is a great way to solve the problem of finding transportation from Disney to other various Orlando attractions. I will definitely be using this service when I travel off-property on my next Disney vacation!
