Hidden Magic: Tower of Terror

Tower of Terror

Disney imagineers make  it their job to make sure  every little detail on each attraction is perfect.  They often add in details which add to the attractions back story, as well as detail which pay tribute to Disney characters, TV shows, and films.  The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is no exception to this.

  • The Tower of Terror is 199 feet tall.  One foot taller and the imagineers would have been required to add flashing lights for air traffic.
  • Some of the leather chairs in the hotel’s lobby are authentic antiques dating back to the Renaissance.
  • Some of the bronze statues found in the lobby were created by the 19th century artist Moreau.  During the Golden Age of Hollywood, many of his statues could be found in high-class hotels.
  • The mahjongg game found in the lobby was set up by actual mahjongg players in order to make the game authentic.
  • In one of the libraries, there is some sheet music of a song titled “No Mickey Mouse? (What Kind Of Party Is This?).”
  • When you see the five people in the elevator, the little girl is holding a Mickey Mouse.
  • For the additional lines of dialogue needed for The  Tower of Terror, Rod Serling’s  widow selected a sound-alike for the part.
  • As the ride comes to an end, you will see a ventriloquist dummy which is from an episode of The Twilight Zone called “The Dummy.”
  • Imagineers designed the outside of the Tower of Terror to resemble the Moroccan pavilion at Epcot.  From World Showcase, it is possible to see the Tower of Terror behind Morocco.

Have you noticed any other little details at the Tower of Terror?  We would love to hear them in the comments below!
