“The Little Mermaid” Inspired Date Night At Disney

Magical Blogorail Red: "The Little Mermaid" Inspired Date Night At Disney

Welcome to those of you joining me from The Disney Point and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 4th stop on our Magical Blogorail.

Many of our favorite Disney movies tell a great love story. So for this month’s Magical Blogorail loop, we thought it would be fun to share ideas for a date night inspired by scenes from our favorite Disney films. For my inspiration, I decided to use scenes from my favorite Disney film, “The Little Mermaid.”

"The Little Mermaid" Inspired Date Night At Disney

We’ll start with a romantic dinner inspired by the stuffed crab meal Chef Louis prepared for Ariel and Eric. At Epcot’s Coral Reef Restaurant, you can dine on seafood favorites such as seared salmon, lobster orecchiette pasta, fried shrimp, and more. For those, such as Ariel and myself, who aren’t interested in seafood, Coral Reef also non-seafood dishes such as oven-roasted chicken breast and steak.

In addition to delicious food, the Coral Reef Restaurant also gives guests the experience of being “Under The Sea.” The restaurant’s large panoramic windows give guests a great view of The Seas With Nemo & Friends. You can see over 4,000 sea creatures from your dinner table! Sharks, turtles, stingrays, and beautiful tropical fish can be found swimming in The Seas. Be sure to keep an eye on aquarium. When I dined at Coral Reef, I looked up to see Mickey Mouse swimming past!

Once you’ve enjoyed your underwater dining experience, head over to Port Orleans or Fort Wilderness. Just as Prince Eric took Ariel on a carriage tour of his kingdom, you  and your special someone can experience a romantic carriage ride at either of these Walt Disney World resorts. The carriage ride at Fort Wilderness will take you on a trail through the beautiful pine and cypress trees of the resort and campground.

Since Prince Eric’s kingdom is located on the sea, a carriage ride at Port Orleans may be more appropriate for a “The Little Mermaid” inspired date night. This carriage ride will take you along the tranquil banks of the Sassagoula River. No matter which carriage experience you choose, this is sure to be a great addition to your Disney date night!

Just as Eric and Ariel ended their romantic date with a boat ride during the “Kiss The Girl” scene, you can also experience a lovely boat ride at Walt Disney World. The specialty fireworks cruises are a great way to end your date. Disney offers two different fireworks cruise experiences – Wishes and Illuminations.

Both cruise experiences include snacks, soft drinks, and a captain for your boat. A synchronized soundtrack is played right on the boat for the Wishes fireworks cruise. For the Illuminatiions fireworks cruise, your boat will sail up International Gateway for a great view of the show.

Which of these “The Little Mermaid” inspired date night ideas would you like to experience? Let us know in the comments below!

  • FABULOUS ideas! I’d love to do the fireworks cruise sometime, but I’ve also considered doing one of the carriage rides.

    • Me too! They both sound like fun!

  • That sounds fabulous! I may have to snatch those ideas for my upcoming wedding anniversary! I would love the carriage ride too.

    • Those would be perfect for an anniversary celebration!

  • Hayden Davis

Sounds like my kind of date! Great idea’s, always wanted to do a horse drawn carriage. Do you know how much it typically costs?

    • They start at $45 for 25 minutes.

  • So fun, to add a themed date night to an already magical place! You’ve captured some of our favorite (or must-try) things. I love the whole night’s plan! 🙂

  • I love the Little Mermaid and a carriage ride sounds wonderful. I’m not a seafood lover, so I’ve never eaten at the Coral Reef. Do they have any non-seafood options?

    • I’m not a seafood fan either. I can’t remember what I had when I ate there, but my guess would be chicken. I know they do have oven roasted chicken and steak entrees.

  • I’ve always wanted to go on the specialty fireworks cruises! Have you ever been?

    • I haven’t, but they sure do sound like fun!

  • Lisa Cameron

I love how you set your date at WDW! I can’t wait until both my kids can go to the kids club so we could actually do something like this. If you were on a budget and could only do one, which would you choose?

    • If I could only do one, I think I’d choose the fireworks cruise. Watching the show from the water sounds like it would be extra magical!

  • Very creative! Those are wonderful ideas for The Little Mermaid. It’s been years since I’ve been to Coral Reef, but the Illuminations cruise sounds so fun!

    • I was 7 when we went to Coral Reef. I would love to go back again. It was a fun (although interesting) experience.
Since they gave us vouchers for free meals on the trip we won, my dad ordered a whole lobster. I just happened to be sitting across from him and his lobster, which just happened to be staring at me! I eventually made him turn the lobster around so it wouldn’t look at me. It was a bit traumatic for me at the time, but it’s kind of funny now. And I certainly won’t ever forget my first time eating at Coral Reef!

  • Lin @ DisneyMamas

I want the whole package! What a perfect date! We have eaten at Corral Reef, and took a carriage ride through Fort Wilderness on our honeymoon…now to schedule a fireworks cruise!

    • How fun! The only one of those I’ve done is eat at Coral Reef, but it was so long ago. I think I need to experience it again! 🙂

  • These are such great ideas! This would be the perfect date. I think I may steal your ideas. 🙂

  • I am in for this evening!! Not sure Flounder or Sebastian would like me eating their friends at Coral Reef but I do love it there.

    • Yeah, don’t think they would be fans of it. Every time my husband orders flounder at a restaurant, I tell him I’m going to tell Ariel on him!
