Walt Disney World is filled with all sorts of sports and recreational activities. No matter which sport you are interested in, chances are there is probably a way to enjoy it at Disney. Many of the resorts at Disney World are home to popular athletic activities such as running, volleyball, tennis and more. You can also find more unique sports, such as surfing and watersports at Walt Disney World. Here are just a few of the many ways to participate in sports at Disney.

Sports At Your Resort

Many resorts at Walt Disney World have sports activities readily available for willing guests. Resorts such as Port Orleans – Riverside offer bike rentals, including the ever-popular surrey bike rentals. My parents rented a surrey bike on their last vacation and loved the experience. One of my favorite sports, tennis, can be found at several of the deluxe Walt Disney World Resorts, including Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Sand volleyball courts can be also found at multiple Disney resorts, such as Disney’s Beach Club. Basketball courts are readily available to guests at 5 Walt Disney World resorts, including Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas. With Disney hosting numerous runDisney events each year, it’s only natural to have running trails at many of the resorts. Guests at resorts in the Magic Kingdom area can take advantage of jogging trails providing scenic views of Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom, while guests staying near Epcot can jog on trails around Crescent Lake and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

Surfing At Typhoon Lagoon

If you’ve ever had the desire to learn how to surf, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is the place to do it! On select days, surf lessons are offered (for an additional charge) prior to park opening. You’ll learn to surf from a pro who could have you riding 6 foot tall waves by the end of your lesson. The instruction will start off on land. You’ll then move into the water with a soft-sided surfboard.

Typhoon Lagoon also has something to offer for experienced surfers. Also prior to park opening, Disney offers private surfing sessions, limited to 25 guests. Surfers will have the opportunity to ride up to 100 waves during their session!

Watersports on Bay Lake

If you love water but surfing isn’t for you, you’ll be glad to hear about the watersports available on Bay Lake. Located in the marina of Disney’s Contemporary Resort is Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre. Here guests will find all kinds of watersports to enjoy. Activities such as parasailing, wakeboarding, tubing, and 6 time world champion Sammy Duvall’s sport of choice, waterskiing. Even Goofy and Pluto have been known to occasionally enjoy a bit of waterskiing! Guests can also enjoy boat and jetski rentals. If you would like a guided tour around Bay Lake, the tour guides will be happy to show you the sights, including Discovery Island, bald eagles, otters, and views of the Magic Kingdom.

My boys would love to learn how to surf at Typhoon Lagoon. Might have to try this out soon.

    • I’m sure it would be a lot of fun! And probably pretty funny to watch too, at least for me. I’m pretty sure I’d fall of the surf board a lot!

It has always been my dream to go parasailing at Disney. I think I’m going to make that my weight loss goal. If I lose my weight, I’ll treat myself next trip!

    • Parasailing looks so fun. I’m not sure if I’d be brave enough to try it, though. Maybe if they have a two person parasail…

  • Kimberly, would love to take part in all of these. Maybe some day. This isn’t sports, but we finally rented those little boats and had fun. Great ideas.
