Summer Recipes: Key Lime Pie

Key Lime Pie is one of my favorite summer recipes. This quick and easy recipe has been a family favorite since our first trip to Key West several years ago. Here’s what you’ll need to make your own key lime pie at home this summer.

9-inch graham cracker pie crust
Two 14 ounce cans of sweetened condensed milk
6 egg yolks (Save the egg whites to make a meringue topping, if desired.)
1/2 cup key lime juice (I use Nellie & Joe’s Famous Key Lime Juice.)

At a slow speed, blend the sweetened condensed milk together with the egg yolks until smooth.
Next, add in key lime juice and continue blending.
Pour the filling into your pie crust.
Bake the pie for 15 minutes in a 300 degree oven.
Allow the pie to cool for 20 minutes before refrigerating.

Key lime pie is generally served topped with whipped cream or meringue. Since trying the chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick in Key West, I enjoy topping my key lime pie with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. You can also try key lime pie topped with mango sauce or raspberry sauce.

  • I am obsessed with Key Lime Pie and I have to admit, I’m kind of a Key Lime Pie snob… I love that your recipe is simple, traditional, and doesn’t include the green dye that I see so many people put into Key Lime Pie these days… I don’t know why, but seeing that just makes me nuts.

    • I am right there with you on the green dye! I can’t stand to see green key lime pies! I thought about putting a note about that in my article, but I decided I’d at least try not to be a key lime pie snob (I figured it would come up in the comments). I love this recipe – it’s so delicious and very easy to make!

  • Key Lime Pie looks so refreshing. I don’t know that I’ve ever had it. I’m not a huge fan of the lime flavor. I’m going to have to taste it sometime, though.

    • You should try it sometime (although I am a huge fan of limes)! The flavor in the pie is a bit more subtle than actual limes, so you might like it.

    We love getting Key Lime Pie while we’re in Key West too. I introduced my kids to the chocolate covered pie on a stick version and they loved it! I’ll have to make this for them this summer!
