When you first enter Disney’s Hollywood Studios, one of the first structures you will see is the Crossroads of The World. This Disney landmark is modeled after the original Crossroads of The World located on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Similar to the original, which has been called America’s first outdoor shopping mall, Disney’s version of Crossroads of The World also offers a small variety of items for purchase. Guests will find a small selection of souvenirs, sunglasses, autograph books, and other various items at Disney’s Crossroads of The World.
While Disney’s version does bear a striking resemblance to the original, you will notice one aspect of this landmark which makes it distinctly Disney. Located atop the 6-foot wide globe, a 5-foot 3-inches tall Mickey Mouse waves to guests as they enter Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
In addition to greeting guests, Mickey Mouse also serves another purpose as he stands on top of the Crossroads of The World. His right ear is the highest point on this structure. It is also made out of copper and serves as a lightning rod.
