Many years ago I used to enjoy watching the old Disney show Zorro on Disney Channel’s late night Vault Disney programming. It was a great show! The show originally aired on ABC from 1957 until 1959. In the late 1950’s and early 1960, the show’s actors came to Disneyland a handful of times to put on Zorro Days. These special events were meant to attract locals to return to the park.
Zorro Days too place three times in 1958, once in 1959, and once in 1960. The show’s stars including Guy Williams as Zorro and his stunt double Buddy Van Horn were present at each event. They would participate in a Zorro parade, a stunt show, and a stage show in which children were given the opportunity to sword fight with Zorro himself. The stunt show started at the Golden Horseshoe and ends up on top of the Mark Twain river boat. Due to the events taking place during the school year, the crowds for Zorro Days were never bad.
Now, over 50 years later, photographs and videos of Zorro Days are very rare. I have only seen a handful of photos of this spectacular event. Videos of this event are even rarer. Luckily, The Disney History Institute has posted a great video of Zorro Days. Check out the video below and be sure to check out their website, as well!
